Over the past year, we have spent more time in our homes than ever before. Therefore, 2021 may be the year you are thinking about expanding your home.
If you are, then this is the blog for you! Let us walk you through 2021’s biggest home extension design trends we predict will take this year’s designing world by storm.
1. Closing the gap between our homes and gardens
Due to current events, spending time outdoors has never been more valuable. For many, our gardens have become our escape and focus throughout lockdown. Whether it be gardening, sunbathing or spending time with our family having an outdoor living space has become a MUST in 2021.
Spending long summer nights relaxing outside, listening to music and enjoying a BBQ can be even more enjoyable by combining your indoor living space with the outdoors.
Extensions featuring bi-fold doors replacing one full wall can completely transform your indoor living space by opening it up into the kitchen you are flooding your home with natural light and stepping straight out into the outdoors. This super chic and modern take on extensions is becoming increasingly popular, closing the gap between your home and your garden.
2. Natural Light
Having good lighting in your home can transform any space. Lots of natural, bright light will open up a room and gives the illusion of a bigger space. Not to mention the mood boost natural light gives us, why wouldn’t we want this in our homes?
Designing a home extension around natural light is definitely a trend going to be seen a lot through 2021. IT is essential that your extension compliments your home and the natural light available to have the most impactful design.
Relaxing on the sofa looking up at the stars? Sounds like a dream doesn’t it.
3. Combining the old with the new
If you have an older period home, you may have never considered adding a modern, contemporary extension with the worry it will look out of place. However, design is changing the way we look at our homes and the way in which we can adapt them.
Contemporary extension designs can transform the look of your home. New materials against brickwork such as a fully glass extensions or cladding can transform your home into an intriguing, innovative space while providing benefits such as being more environmentally friendly.
2021 will see the fear of adding ultra-modern, innovative extensions to our home vanish as our homes accept them beautifully, becoming showstoppers.
4. Streamlined Designs
Architecture is becoming smarter as the years progress, consistently adapting and changing to comply to trends, environmental issues and designs. 2021 sees the need for streamlined designs within all aspects of our homes.
In 2021, we want our homes to be beautiful and stylish while complying to our practical and durable needs. Open plan extensions provide our homes with the extra space while the streamlined interior design ensures all our practical needs are met without the need of having visible, bulky interiors.
A streamlined, Scandinavian style extension creates a muted, simplistic element to our homes creating a calm space for us to enjoy. Removing colour while adding texture within the extension creates that space to escape the busy aspects of life and be still.
