Kingdom Maintenance recommends you carry out a roof inspection at least two times a year. Check out these easy steps to make sure your roof is ready to hold up to this winter’s elements.
STEP 1 | INSIDE CHECKS
There are warning signs that can be spotted from inside. If you have access to your loft grab a torch and have a look, you don’t have to go all the way up into the loft, just enough to see the underside of your roof. Things to look for:
Places where the roof is sagging
Signs of water damage or leaking
Dark spots or trails
Can you see outside light shining through?
Check that all bath and kitchen vents go entirely outside of your home, not just into the attic space
If you can’t comfortably access your attic, you can still look for these signs of possible damage:
Water stains/darker marks on ceilings or walls
Water damage around skylights
Damp spots alongside fireplaces
Dampness/ mould growth
STEP 2 | EVALUATE THE EXTERIOR
Now that you’ve had a chance to check the indoors, have a look outside. In most cases, if you have concerns about the roof, it’s best to contact a contractor like Kingdom Maintenance to evaluate this for you. Keep an eye out for:
Missing, cracked, chipped, torn or broken tiles
Missing or broken ridge tiles
Broken cement pointing at the ridge area
Masses of moss which could signal the roof is decaying underneath
Peeling paint on the underside of roof overhangs
Lose material or wear around chimneys, vents or pipes
Tile material falling onto the floor or into the guttering
Missing or broken brickwork on the chimney area
If you find any on the items on this checklist or have any concerns about your roof, contact Kingdom Maintenance for a professional assessment. We can also offer Drone inspections which not only cuts costs but does not require scaffolding or ladders. You don’t even need to be home for us to access!
